24 – Raw High Life

WEEK 24

Week 3 of High Raw Life

I took my quiz again, and I’m now about 78% raw!  Woohoo!

The slideshow below shows some of the drinks and dishes we made this week:

Day 15 – Pesto and Thai Curry Soup in the Vitamix

Pesto made in the Vitamix with basil from the garden!  Everyone loved the pesto linguine (gluten free).  It’s all gone!

Husband and I loved the Thai Curry Ginger soup.  It’s a favorite here.

Strawberry Delicious Smoothie I made today (so gorgeous, right?):

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup green grapes
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup pineapple and peaches mixed (or any fruit)
  • 1/2 cup strawberries (frozen or add ice at the end)
  • 1 cup ice if fruit wasn’t frozen

Day 16 – Down 6 pounds total for me now!

Rollerbladed and walked to the dentist today.  Dentist said I am very low on plaque build up and keep doing what I’m doing.  He wouldn’t change a thing!  I would love to be in a world where we don’t need dentists at all.  Anyone else?  I know my Mom agrees 🙂

I know teeth get really clean on raw food diets, so maybe…?

Drinking this delicious treat after all that exercise.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of almond milk (or coconut water)
  • 1 banana
  • 1 Tablespoon raw cacao powder
  • Drizzle of agave
  • 1 cup of ice

…and blend in the fabulous Vitamix!  Voila!  Super refreshing after a workout!

The other amazing thing I noticed this week was NO CRAMPS on a week where they would have knocked me off my feet for 6 hours, NONE at all! Woo!

I’m guessing I get all my fruit and veggie servings in a day now.  The newly recommended from Building a Better Food Pyramid, is the following:

“Food Pyramid: Vegetables

A recent study shows that most people still don’t eat the amount of vegetables they need. The food pyramid now gives recommendations in total cups of vegetables per day — you can spread out the amount you need any way you want across your meals and snacks. Totals are between 2 and 2.5 cups per day for women and girls over the age of 9, 2.5 to 3 cups for men and boys 9 years old and up.

Food Pyramid: Fruits

Believe it or not, there’s a limit to the amount of fruit you should eat. Why? For adults, it’s because of the calories. “Fruits are double the calories of vegetables,” Sandon says. According to USDA, the total daily recommended amounts for fruits are for 1 to 1.5 cups for children ages 2 to 8 years, 1.5 cups for most women and girls over 9 years old, and 2 cups for men and boys over age 9. Fruit provides great nutrients and fiber.”

Why is dairy a food group at all on the pyramid?  So vegans and raw foodies are missing a whole group besides meat?  Guess so!

I like how this video (link below) said split your plate into four sections.  Fruits and veggies should take up half the plate, with veggies a little more so than fruit.  Then the remaining two sections are for meat and grains.

I found it interesting that the site mentioned people only need about 5 to 6.5 ounces of lean meat per day.  They recommended 2 ounces of lean chicken at lunch and 4 ounces of fish at dinner.  That is a lot less meat than I have eaten my whole life on a daily basis!  Wow!

I understand they are trying to get a handle on portion control and nip the obesity problem in the bud 🙂

Now the raw food pyramid looks something like this:

(from this link: http://www.vegan-raw-diet.com/rawfoodpyramid.html)

I recommend doing a Google search on raw food pyramids.  There are a lot and some are quite fun!

I do think it’s helpful not to worry the first few weeks about how many servings of fruits, veggies, or nuts you are having.  I went by my cravings for each of those.  I get more “in tune” with what my body is craving/needing as I go.  And now more veggies sound better than they did at first.  I wanted a lot of fruit at first.

Day 17 – Binge

Ok, so at first I felt bad that I ate too much almond butter and honey last night, and I was barely hungry today.  Then I had perspective… I used to put away half a cake, or a pint of ice cream in one sitting (one long sitting – in front of the t.v.).  Then I felt better.  At least it was a binge on antioxidants and raw goodness.

Day 18 – Party Day

Life has gotten super busy again.  Preparing for a big family party and playing keyboard for church in the morning two times this weekend.  Started partying with my food too.  Still wasn’t as drastic as before.  Had one piece of cake at the party, and honestly, the sugar shocked my system.  I really did not feel well after that.  It’s amazing to me how bad refined sugar makes me feel, especially after eating really healthy for a while.  Anyway, in the past, I probably would have had seconds and thirds, so it’s still improvement!

I wish I would have taken a picture of the Sangria my daughter made.  It was so pretty!

Day 19 – Party Day Too

It’s Labor Day Weekend, what can I say!  Had Mexican with the family up north.  Nachos supreme and a Margarita.  Neither of these made me feel bad though.  Usually nachos are just fine for a splurge food.  My skin is definitely showing it’s confusion.  I think I was in detox mode prior to all these parties, and now, the body is just confused.  Sorry body!

Day 20 – Labor Day

Hitting “RESET” after all this partying!  Ready for some good fruits and veggies again!  I did eat a sandwich with sprouts today, some veggies and dip, and a chocolate banana shake!  Ahhhh, feels better!

Day 21 – Back Home

Excited to get back home and get back into Vitamixing goodness!  I’ve added links all over my blog for Free Shipping if you want to buy a Vitamix using my unique code for discounts!  Shop away!  You won’t regret your purchase!
