Making Raw Vegan Diets Work at Work?

How does a raw vegan deal with taking their food to work?

✿   If you’re gone from 8am in the morning (or earlier) until 6 pm or later… What do you do?

✿   I have over an hour commute each way to work, taking buses and trains.

So I tried 4 different things.  Let’s see what you think…

Raw veg work

1.   Fasting

✿   A day of fasting, led to a night of bingeing…  not so great.

2.   Taking abundant smoothies (see video 2).

✿   Requires lifting a REALLY HEAVY wheelie bag up and down the Elevated train steps, and onto trains and busses, no thank you!  (Although I guess it’s good Grand Canyon training prep!)

3.   Cheat day

✿   Not really a good idea.  Insta-hemmhorroids, etc.

4.   Banana Island in the daytime?

✿   This kind of worked.  I found it super convenient!  I brought 14 bananas and a smoothie.  It was nice to not have to bring anything home.

✿   It was hard to make it through ALL those bananas though.  By banana #11, I was gagging!

My Conclusion… maybe some combination of banana island and just 1-2 smoothies (not so heavy) would be the best for me.

What DOES a Raw Vegan Eat?

This was a typical day for Fall/Winter.

Breakfast ~

~ 1/2 to 1 pineapple
~ 4 oranges, juiced
Blend in Vitamix with 1-2 cups of water

Lunch ~

Raw moccachino:
~ 6 bananas
~ 16 dates (soaked in water, then pitted)
~ 2 Tablespoons of carob powder
~ 1 cup of romaine lettuce (didn’t feel like having a big salad tonight)

Cover with water
Blend in Vitamix (add ice if you like)

Pre-Dinner ~

~ 7 figs

Dinner ~

~ Corn pasta – 8 ounces, with low sodium marinara sauce

Total Calories for the Day = 3159

This was a low-fat day and included Peak 8 exercises on the bike.  My calories have gone UP since starting my exercise challenge.

What Kind of Person THRIVES on a Raw Food Diet? Can Anyone Do It?

I believe 1 or more of these factors have to be present to really THRIVE on a raw food diet:

My thoughts:

1.  You are sick and tired of being sick and tired.

2.  You just KNOW this is the BEST way to eat.  It feels clean.  It feels natural.  It fits our design (for me that means designed in a garden… given fruit trees and greens to eat).

3.  You have a “NOT give up” mentality.  You are in it for the long term.  If you fail and fall off the wagon, you shake the dust off and move forward in this direction.

4.  You try it, and realize you feel better than ever before.  You’re digestion improved (once you figured out food combining), your skin improved, your stamina and endurance for whatever sport you like got significantly better over time!  Your enjoyment of sex improved, your libido is up.

5.  You are open minded, not closed to alternatives to all the medicines, doctors, and t.v. ads out there!

6.  You do your own research.  You don’t need a Ph.D. or Scientist to tell you how to live your life, or how to eat right for optimal life.  But if you find a good one that supports your raw food beliefs, great!  You go with it, making sure it’s really what you believe as well.

7.  You are sick of side effects of medicines, that have not cured you (most of the time), but cover up the pain of your symptoms.

8.  Perhaps you have tried every thing else.  You have tried every other diet, and they haven’t helped you maintain your weight for the long term, or help you really THRIVE in your life with optimal energy and health.

9.  You may HATE exercising at first when you start a raw food diet, but as your energy improves, you CRAVE it, and you find what you love the most.

Does Raw Food Make Arthritis Worse? If It’s Cold Where You Live?

I was a dancer in my younger years through adult years.

By age 18, I was diagnosed with pre-arthritis in my knees.

I was living on fast food, canned foods, processed foods, doughnuts, etc.  The dancing probably helped me keep the weight down, but lots of exercise did NOT keep every ailment away.

In the last 10 years, the arthritis grew very menacing!  The pain spread to my neck, back, legs, feet, etc.

We definitely have a winter season here in Chicagoland, and the pain was the worst in winter, from November to March or April.

I initially took Ibuprofen to mask the pain, until we were trying to get pregnant.  Then the doctors told us to stay off of Ibuprofen, because it could hinder fertility.

In 2010, as you may already know, I began my raw food diet, eating mainly gluten free and dairy free as well as raw food.  Very quickly, ALL arthritis symptoms were gone gone gone!

In 2012, I became raw vegan.  The healing continued.  I’m off all medicines now for arthritis and everything else!

If you come from a Biblical perspective, or are interested, as I am, you will see in Genesis, we were designed in a garden 🙂  We were given the lay of the land of fruit trees to choose from.  The greens were given to the animals.  So to me, this means this was our perfect food and is our perfect food.  My testimony of healing I’ve received supports all I need to know!

NOT RAW VS. RAW:

Not Raw ~

While in college, I had surgery in my late teens/early 20’s on my ovaries for a cyst and a growth.

The doctors said I would NEVER be able to get off of Ibuprofen, for the horrible cramps, etc.  They had me on very strong prescription ibuprofen.  These were my symptoms then, and when NOT eating a raw food/raw vegan diet.

~ Cramps from HELL!

~ Jelly legs

~ Angry lady gone postal

~ Acne

~ Foggy head, dizzy

~ Really hard to go to work like this

Recent years, on top of the above issues, my cycle started coming every 3 weeks, only 2 weeks off per month!  EYEyeyeyey!

Plus hot flashes and night sweats!  I was diagnosed with early menopause!

VS.

RAW ~ When I’m following a Raw Vegan/ Raw Food diet (low fat):

~ Angry lady stays on vacation somewhere else

~ Cramps are minimal to none

~ Foggy head is not so foggy anymore

~ Less facial breakout (not perfect at this point)

~ NO LONGER take ANY ibuprofen or medicines for ANY part of it!  Since 2010 when I started a high raw, gluten free, dairy free diet

~ Jelly legs are better

~ In general, the whole cycle is a lot lighter and easier

~ AND NOT coming every 3 weeks!

~ No more night sweats, and hot flashes reduce to warm/mild instead of intense!

I need a manageable life, for getting up early in the mornings, to go to work, etc.  So my conclusion… RAW VEGAN WINS!!! it’s WAY better on RAW and RAW VEGAN!  Woo!!!!

Too Much Raw Food Messed Up My Digestion?

I saw my Dad deal with pre-cancer/cancer in his colon, and I wanted a way out!

I grew up on convenient but processed foods!  Lots of soda and acne to go with it!

I was having stomach problems most of my life.

I saw a doctor in my 20s that did look at my nutrition.  She told me to eliminate beer and dairy 🙂

I did, but that didn’t fix everything.  It helped some.

I still had bad constipation, gas, digestion, reflux, etc.

In 2010 I began eating a high raw food diet, with gluten and dairy free food as well.

Almost everything cleared up!

I was still learning about proper food combining, which affects digestion greatly!

In 2012, I found Dr. Graham’s book 80/10/10, and began following it.

~ NO MORE constipation!

~ Most gas was gone, and nothing stinky anymore!

~ Most heartburn and reflux eliminated!

~ Stomach pains gone, unless I ate unripe fruit, or detoxing something.

~ BLISSFUL digestion, regular and healthy!

No more toxins staying in my body for more than 4 days!  Raw food digests in about 24 – 48 hours max, vs. cooked food can take up to 100 hours to digest!  Especially highly processed, fried foods!  YUCK!

Does Raw Food Cause Asthma and Allergies?

I was hospitalized in my late teens with a bad asthma attack.  The doctors gave me many different inhalers for it, but it never healed anything.

Later, I was diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma, and given more inhalers.  Again, nothing changed.

Until…. I went to a chiropractor in 2010.  He told me to go as raw as I could, as well as gluten and dairy free.

I did, and it worked!  In a very short period of time, the asthma and allergies were GONE!

Then I went raw vegan in 2012, and the healing continued.

I’m almost 40, and I am now on NO inhalers or medicines!

AND, I rarely get a cold, unless I go off my raw vegan lifestyle a little too much.

Just wanted to share that good news!
