28 – Moderation

Burger & steak time (pic above) – I just so enjoy a good burger once in a while.  What do you raw foodies eat when you are craving this?

I’m also needing some substitutions – for pizza – it locks up my system, unless it’s the burger from the other day, which I guess it could be, because cooked food can take up to 48 hours to digest!

Lord get me there.  I’m not where I want to be, but I’m better than where I started.

I’ve heard what some people do to stay a certain weight, from only eating breakfast and nothing else all day, to exercising extremely hard daily.

I would love to stop eating at 4pm or 7pm each day.  But the discipline can’t be of my own doing anymore.  It just doesn’t last.

On a different note,

so happy I ran into this deliciousness!  Chocolate banana smoothie mix!

These glasses just make me happy 🙂

Another thing we found – honey infused goat cheese – it added so much to our omelets and salads!

For my birthday, I actually wanted to just stay on the beach, relax and eat the good stuff we bought at the grocery store!  This is soooo new for me!  I always wanted lots of pampering in the past, being taken out to eat, etc.  Now I’m happy to just relax here at this gorgeous place.  God is so good!

And now, ponderings about moderation:

Whether or not you agree with the Bible, it’s where I get my wisdom from.  And here’s what I see on this topic of moderation.

Psalm 34:10
The young lions lack food and suffer hunger, but they who seek (inquire of and require) the Lord [by right of their need and on the authority of His Word], none of them shall lack any beneficial thing.

1 Corinthians 6:12
Everything is permissible (allowable and lawful) for me; but not all things are helpful (good for me to do, expedient and profitable when considered with other things). Everything is lawful for me, but I will not become the slave of anything or be brought under its power.

1 Corinthians 10:23
All things are legitimate [permissible—and we are free to do anything we please], but not all things are helpful (expedient, profitable, and wholesome). All things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life].

Colossians 2

In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom ([d]comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden.

I say this in order that no one may mislead and delude you by plausible and persuasive and attractive arguments and beguiling speech.

For though I am away from you in body, yet I am with you in spirit, delighted at the sight of your [standing shoulder to shoulder in such] orderly array and the firmness and the solid front and steadfastness of your faith in Christ [that [e]leaning of the entire human personality on Him in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness].

As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk in union with Him.

Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving.

See to it that no one carries you off as spoil or makes you yourselves captive by his so-called philosophy and intellectualism and vain deceit (idle fancies and plain nonsense), following human tradition (men’s ideas of the material rather than the spiritual world), just crude notions following the rudimentary and elemental teachings of the universe and disregarding [the teachings of] Christ (the Messiah).

For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature].

10 And you [f]are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and reach full spiritual stature]. And He is the Head of all rule and authority [of every angelic principality and power].

11 In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a [spiritual] circumcision [performed by] Christ by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts).

12 [Thus [g]you were circumcised when] you were buried with Him in [your] baptism, in which you were also raised with Him [[h]to a new life] through [your] faith in the working of God [[i]as displayed] when He raised Him up from the dead.

13 And you who were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful carnal nature), [God] brought to life together with [Christ], having [freely] forgiven us all our transgressions,

14 Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared [j]completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross.

15 [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].

16 Therefore let no one sit in judgment on you in matters of food and drink, or with regard to a feast day or a New Moon or a Sabbath.

17 Such [things] are only the shadow of things that are to come, and they have only a symbolic value. But the reality (the substance, the solid fact of what is foreshadowed, the body of it) belongs to Christ.

18 Let no one defraud you by acting as an umpire and declaring you unworthy and disqualifying you for the prize, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions [he claims] he has seen, vainly puffed up by his sensuous notions and inflated by his unspiritual thoughts and fleshly conceit,

19 And not holding fast to the Head, from Whom the entire body, supplied and knit together by means of its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.

20 If then you have died with Christ to material ways of looking at things and have escaped from the world’s crude and elemental notions and teachings of externalism, why do you live as if you still belong to the world? [Why do you submit to rules and regulations?—such as]

21 Do not handle [this], Do not taste [that], Do not even touch [them],

22 Referring to things all of which perish with being used. To do this is to follow human precepts and doctrines.

23 Such [practices] have indeed the outward appearance [that popularly passes] for wisdom, in promoting self-imposed rigor of devotion and delight in self-humiliation and severity of discipline of the body, but they are of no value in checking the indulgence of the flesh (the lower nature). [Instead, they do not honor God but serve only to indulge the flesh.]

Conclusions:

You (God) have given us all of Your favor as Your children.  We lack no good thing.  All that You have is ours!

You want us to know You and be known by You.  To enjoy You and be enjoyed by You.

You invite us to join You in cool things, exciting things that You have destined us for, and to walk in.

Not so much the American dream, as far as striving to get rich and then enjoy life… but enjoy life, because You are with us always, You pour Your fountain of grace on us daily, Your goodness daily.  Help me be on the lookout for Your goodness each day.  Let me catch You in the act!

You are not wanting…

– us to submit to high levels of discipline that don’t serve to curb indulgence of the flesh

– us to be a slave to anything, brought under its power

– us to focus on moderation as the end goal

but focus on You and enjoying You, and receiving Your goodness every day.

Make it so Lord!

Love,

Jen

27 – Stop the Criticism! Enjoy Life!

A wise woman once said that if you’re craving tons of chocolate (or anything), just go ahead and have it.  Pretty soon, you’ll be over it and move on.  I think this just happened to me.  After several days in a row of bacon and potatoes, I’m over them, and back to high raw.

Yay for choosing healthy delicious foods again!

WEEK 6 – High Raw

Watermelon!

I really like watermelon.  I have a new passion for it.  It so helps me to eat better when I run into raw foods I like just as much as unhealthy options.

We are back at apartments now while travelling.  We have a kitchen and a fridge, so we bought all these healthy things:  watermelon, pico de gallo (tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapenos, and lime juice), the smoothie juices, and added some dark chocolate to the raw seed/nut mix we had from the other day.  I whipped up some eggs (cage free/organic, hormone free) with the pico de gallo – YUM!

Added some dark chocolate bites to the Raw Energy mix below.

Body happy again!

Washington D.C.

We have been splitting appetizers for dinners and walking walking walking!  Today we walked and went on a bus tour in the rain!  I guess you do what you have to do to see what you want to see, despite the circumstances.  This was my fashion statement today 🙂

Williamsburg, VA

Amazing salads – Watercress salad with dates, blue cheese, candied almonds, and mustard dressing!

Beet salad with feta, candied pecans, mustard vinaigrette!

North Carolina on the beach

Bought kale and lots of greens, veggies and fruits.  The house we are staying at has a strong looking blender that I will be putting to the test with smoothies!

Yay for the blender in the house rental!!!

Mango Tango Smoothie

Couldn’t find raw cacao, so did the next best thing… coffee.

The view of the ocean from the house rental 🙂

A friend of mine posted this about Kale!  Have you had yours today?  I have 🙂

(I haven’t checked the validity of each of these claims, but I know Kale is a superfood!  If you know anything different, let me know!)

Digestion has been very happy!  Been having fruit smoothies every morning and a salad each day.  Besides that, just moderate amounts of meat, rice, and sweets 🙂

Here’s to moderation!

Love,

Jen

16 – Balance

WEEK 16 – Balance

I have finally come to a place where I feel truly done with extremes… done with forcing myself to be all raw or such.  I’m enjoying just listening to my body and if I’m craving salad or fruit, going for that.  And if I’m craving pizza (which I am right now), eating that.

My theory now is that I will get to a really healthy balance if I avoid the extremes.

As shown from my gallbladder flush week, after a week of a “special diet” I go to the opposite extreme of fast food every day.  I’m definitely tired of swinging from one end to the other, and am now ready to flow into a balance now, no matter how long it takes!

I prefer the gluten free food whenever possible, but I can handle a little gluten if it’s what’s there.  I do crave raw food and snacks, so I’m not worried that I will only want junk food anymore.

The same goes with exercise.  I find it practically impossible to work out 5 times a week at an aerobic pace for 30 minutes or more.  But I love to skate for an hour once a week, and then throw in a walk or bike trip here or there.  Whenever I have tried to workout 5 or more times a week, I end up working out zero times the week after that, from being completely exhausted!  Anyone else find this to be true?

I’m actually enjoying this balance idea tremendously.  I’m happy when I’m fitting in my clothes, eating healthy, but not restricting myself from some “fun” foods and drinks when they are around.  This way I don’t go into “binge-mode” because I haven’t had any fun for a while!

Ah yes, back to all things in moderation idea.

We will see if I end up all raw or all gluten free from this, or if weight loss will just happen over time.  Any which way, I’m excited!  I’m definitely comfortable where I’m at, and feel like it can only get better.
